Personal:
My name is Daniela Cayetano. This is the four year being at ASGL, which makes me a Senior. I have been part of the Girls Basketball Team since my freshman year. I am the youngest sibling of two. My parents originated from Mexico. Both of my parents are immigrants that migrated to the United States to offer my brother and I better opportunities. A great thank you to all the selected staff at ASGL for motivating me to stay on top of my schoolwork while being part of the Girls Basketball Team. I’ve grown a lot since my freshman year to my senior year. As coming in to my freshman, I didn’t really know anyone and I was shy to talk to people I didn’t know. Throughout the years, I have meet many friends that have supported and pushed me to working hard and pushing myself to my farest limit. My senior year now I feel like a more confident, energetic, positive about myself and my schoolwork abilities. |
Academic:
Being a senior this year, attending ASGL since 2014, has really changed my learning ways. I view my education in a more specific manner. Viewing my education from my 9th grade level has thought its matters, but to an extent. I learn about myself from being student. One of my biggest struggles as a student at ASGL, was not having a proper math class my sophomore year. Due to the fact the teacher left in the middle of the semester, we had a lot of substitute teachers so my peers and did not have a proper class to learn. Later, I realized that I had to take actions into my own hands. In order to do this, I had to retake the class during summer school to understand the material for the class. A program offered at my school, Gear-Up L.A., gave me the opportunity to retake this class. The class of Algebra 2 was during the summer of 2016 from Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 2:00pm. I dedicated all my valuable time and effort to this summer class in order to understand the content. |
Global Competency:
I have been involved in various activities that have provided me the opportunity to take action in my community. I have been involved in the Red Cross Club at ASGL. Red Cross Club had a community festival, "Red Cross Preparedness Fair". This festival was to inform my community on how to be prepared for a real life threatening emergency. During the festival I was to take note of volunteers, answer guests questions, and translate for Spanish speaking parents. The fair was a success, because it informed families on how to be prepared for earthquakes or fires and what they needed to have to be ready for it. Being globally aware is important as global students, because it is important to realize what is affecting not only my community, but my country, and the world around me. What is happening all around the world is having an effect on all of us, As a global competent student, I now see how important it is to recognize different perspectives, and especially understand my own perspective. Seeing all these natural disasters and the terrorist attacks has made me aware of the world in a detailed manner, and now I can take action and help those in need.
